Eating 15 grams of nuts every day could lower death risk from many diseases

You are probably aware of the fact that peanuts and nuts have many health benefits. Their mix of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamin E and fiber make them perfect for a quick snack and protect your heart against many diseases. Now, a new research study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology shows that individuals who ate 15 grams of nuts or peanuts daily have a 23 percent decreased risk of death due to cancer, diabetes, respiratory diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. Researchers also found that the population with the decreased risk are younger, have a higher level of educational degree, consume more vegetables and fruits, take supplements, drink more alcohol and are hypertensive. However, eating more than 15 grams of nuts daily did not lead to a further reduction in mortality risk among participants. This finding is in line with many previous studies investigating nut consumption, which found cancer and respiratory mortality does not reduce with increasing nut intake. Also, no association was found between peanut butter intake and mortality risk. More than 120,000 men and women aged 55-69 from the Netherlands were part of the study.
