When should you consider seeing a therapist?

Going to see a therapist may not always seem an easy job. You probably experienced stress or sadness several times in life, but it probably didn’t always seem easy or you didn’t know when to go seek professional help. So what should be the right time to go see a therapist? As with every condition, the sooner you seek out help, the better you will feel. Here are a few signs that it may be time to see a therapist. (1) Sadness, depression, anxiety and not feeling good with yourself: If feelings of anger, hopelessness, depression or mania are overwhelming and have been running for weeks, then it might be a right time to seek professional help. When you get to the point where concentration is lost, or you lost enthusiasm for getting things done or even think that it is not worth living anymore, reach out for help immediately. (2) Nothing you’ve done seems to have helped: If nothing seems to work anymore, talking to family and friends, exercising more, reading online resources about coping mechanisms can’t help you change your mood, that may be a sign it’s time to talk to a therapist. (3) Loss of someone important for you: Death, even if part of life, can be very hard to deal with. People react differently to the loss of a loved one, some react better, others experience long-term grief. A psychologist can help you find proper ways to cope with death of someone close to you. (4) You experienced something traumatic: If you have been abused or neglected or if you suffer from chronic illness or some other traumatic event, went through an accident, crime or you’ve been a victim in an unfortunate event, then you should go speak with someone that can help you to cope with these problems. (5) The others noticed there is something different with you: If a friend asked you if everything was OK or noticed that you had a hard time lately or you haven’t been yourself in weeks, then you may need a professional to talk to. ...
