Common conditions linked to desk work


Modern work pushes us to spend a lot more time in front of our computers, sitting at our desks and being surrounded by artificial lights. This leads to the development of some common conditions, such as: (1) Musculoskeletal disorders: Sitting badly in front of a computer for hours can generate back pain. The body can tolerate being in one position for only a short period of time before you feel the need to adjust. (2) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Numbness, tingling, weakness, and other problems in your hand because of pressure on the median nerve in your wrist. It is usually caused by using incorrectly the keyboard and keeping your hand in a bad and painful position for a long time. (3) Workplace allergy and Occupational asthma: Work-induced allergy is fairly simple to diagnose: the symptoms worsen as the workday progresses, and lessen after you leave. And you feel fine on weekends and vacations. Handling substances, masks, ventilation systems and exposure rotations go a long way toward reducing allergies at work.
