How to prevent nail fungus?
A fungal nail infection affects the hard material (keratin) that makes up the nails. Fungal nail infections can affect part or all of the nail, including the nail plate, nail bed and root of the nail. The infection develops slowly and causes the nail to become discoloured, thickened and distorted. The toenails are more frequently affected than the fingernails. To help prevent nail fungus and reduce recurrent infections, practice good hand and foot hygiene. (1) You should trim your nails regularly and dry thoroughly your hands and feet, including between your toes, after bathing;(2) Wear appropriate socks. Synthetic socks that wick away moisture may keep your feet dryer than do cotton or wool socks;(3) Spray or sprinkle your feet and the insides of your shoes;(4) Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from overexposure to water. Between uses, turn the rubber gloves inside out to dry;(5) Keep your feet covered by wearing shoes around public pools, showers and locker rooms;(6) Make sure the salon you are going to sterilizes its instruments;(7) Give up nail polish and artificial nails that can trap unwanted moisture and worsen the infection;(8) Wash your hands after touching an infected nail. Nail fungus can spread from nail to nail. Getting rid of established toenail fungus can be difficult. Successfully eliminating it depends on careful adherence to a treatment plan. ...
