Description

Causes and Risk factors
Swelling of the ankles occurs when high pressure in small blood vessels, the capillaries, forcing water to enter the surrounding tissues. Long periods of standing or sitting, excess salt and hormone fluctuations before menstruation and during pregnancy can promote swelling ankles. A diet of predominantly carbohydrates and salt excess rise to the same inconvenience.
