Anafranil, generically known as Clomipramine Hcl, is an antiobsessional drug, used to treat depressive illness, phobic or obsessional disorders and sudden muscle weakness (cataplexy), associated with a disorder in which there are repeated attacks of extreme sleepiness (narcolepsy).
It works by decreasing persistent or unwanted thoughts and obsessions, and reducing the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, checking) that interfere with daily living.
