Actigall, is a naturally-occurring bile acid, produced by the body that is stored in the gallbladder. It works by braking down the production of cholesterol and by dissolving the cholesterol in bile so that it cannot form stones. Ursodiol is used to dissolve and prevent cholesterol gallstones and to treat primary biliary cirrhosis, a disease of the liver.
This is a prescription only medication and should be taken by mouth two to three times a day, or as directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not increase the dose or frequency without your doctor advice. For best results it may be needed to take Ursodiol for up to 2 years. ...
Side Effect:
Gallstone calcification may occur during treatment. In rare cases, stool can become pasty. Actigall must not be used for:acute inflammation of the gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas.
Most commonly it may cause:diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach, indigestion, dizziness, vomiting, sore throat, runny nose, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; back pain, muscle and joint pain, hair loss, headache. If any of these persist or worsen, call your doctor.
More severe side effects include:an allergic reaction – rash, itching, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives; frequent urination or pain when you urinate and cough with fever.
