Desc:
Bricanyl contains terbutaline sulfate. Terbutaline is a bronchodilator and belongs to a group of medicines called beta-2-agonists. Bricanyl is used to open up the airways in people with asthma, bronchitis and other breathing problems so that they can breathe more easily.
It can also be used before exercise to keep the airways open if you start to wheeze or have trouble breathing each time you exert yourself. Bricanyl is a 'reliever' drug and you should only use it when you need it. ...
Side Effect:
Side effects may include:shaking, usually of the hands; headache; nausea; awareness of your heart beat (heart palpitations); muscle cramps; tense feeling; sleep disturbances; increased heart rate (tachycardia); low blood potassium level (hypokalaemia); mouth or throat irritation (with inhaler devices); unexpected narrowing of the airways (paradoxical bronchospasm, with inhaler devices). ...
Precaution:
Bricanyl should be used with caution in situations that may increase susceptibility to sympathomimetic amines, such as patients with hyperthyroidism not then under control.
Asthmatic patients with concomitant diabetes blood glucose testing is recommended to start taking Bricanyl, because of the risk of hyperglycemia by beta 2-agonists. Beta 2-agonists have been used successfully in the acute treatment of severe ischemic heart failure. However, these drugs have an arrhythmogenic potential which should be considered in the treatment of the patient lung. Because inotropic effect of beta 2-agonists, these drugs will be used in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
