Caduet is a prescription drug that combines two generic medicines amlodipine besylate and atorvastatin calcium. Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), chest pain (angina), or blocked arteries of the heart (coronary artery disease). Atorvastatin is used along with a low-fat diet to lower the LDL (“bad” cholesterol) and triglycerides in the blood. It can raise the HDL (“good” cholesterol) as well. It is used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, certain types of heart surgery, and chest pain in patients who have heart disease or risk factors for heart disease such as age, smoking, high blood pressure, low HDL, or family history of early heart disease. Atorvastatin can also lower the risk of heart attack or stroke in patients with diabetes and risk factors such as diabetic eye or kidney problems, smoking, or high blood pressure.

Side Effect:

Common side effects of Caduet include:headache; dizziness; tiredness; extreme sleepiness; stomach pain; nausea; upset stomach; diarrhea; swelling of your legs or ankles (edema); hot or warm feeling in your face (flushing); irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia); very fast heartbeat (heart palpitations); muscle and joint pain; alterations in some laboratory blood tests.

Caduet can cause serious muscle problems that can lead to kidney problems, including kidney failure. It can also cause liver problems. Your doctor may do blood tests to check your liver before you start taking Caduet and while you take it.

Contact your doctor right away if you have muscle problems like weakness, tenderness, or pain that happen without a good reason, especially if you also have a fever or feel more tired than usual; you have nausea and vomiting, stomach pain; you are passing brown or dark-colored urine; you feel more tired than usual; your skin and white of your eyes get yellow.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include:rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. ...

Do not use Caduet if you are allergic to its active ingredients atorvastatin calcium and amlodipine besylate.

Caduet and some other medicines can interact, causing serious side effects. Especially tell your doctor if you take medicines for:your immune system; birth control; infections; heart failure; cholesterol; HIV (AIDS).
