Adalat/nifedipine belongs to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers that works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. This medicine is used to treat angina (heart pain), high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, and Raynaud's syndrome (primary and secondary).
Adalat/nifedipineconsist of an external coat and an internal core. Both contain nifedipine, the coat as a slow release formulation and the core as a fast release formulation. Adalat tablets contain either:30, 60, or 90 mg of nifedipine for once-a-day oral administration. ...
Side Effect:
Most common side effects caused by Adalat/nifedipine are:headache, nausea, dizziness or lightheadedness, flushing, heartburn, fast heartbeat, muscle cramps, constipation, cough, decreased sexual ability. If any of these persist or worsen, call your doctor.
More rare, but severe side effects include:an allergic reaction – rash, itching, difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives; worsening angina; severe constipation and cramps, severe stomach pain or heartburn, coughing up blood; feeling like you might pass out; feeling short of breath, swelling in your hands or feet; fast or pounding heartbeats; numbness or tingly feeling; yellowing of the skin or eyes; or chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling. ...
Precaution:
Before using this medicine inform your doctor if you are allergic to nifedipine or if have any other allergies. Tell your doctor if you are using other medicine and if you have or ever have had any of the following conditions:kidney disease; liver disease, especially cirrhosis; diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic constipation; gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or slow digestion; a blockage in your digestive tract (stomach or intestines); a colostomy or history of stomach surgery such as gastric bypass; colon cancer; underactive thyroid; diabetes; coronary artery disease; or congestive heart failure.
Because Adalat can cause dizziness and drowsiness, do not drive and use heavy machinery until you are sure you can perform this activity safely. also limit your alcohol beverages.
