Desc:

Alfentanil is indicated to treat the following infections caused by susceptible organisms:upper respiratory tract infections (bacterial pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis bacterial), lower respiratory tract infections (acute bronchitis and chronic exacerbated, interstitial and alveolar pneumonia); skin and soft tissue (chronic migratory erythema, first stage of Lyme borreliosis, erysipelas, impetigo, pyoderma); sexually transmitted infectious disease, uncomplicated urethritis/cervicitis. ...

Side Effect:

Most adverse events reported were gastrointestinal, including anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, cramping, constipation and flatulence were seen occasionally. Have been reported:allergic reactions (such as rash, photosensitivity, arthralgia, edema or urticaria, are rarely reported and serious hypersensitivity reactions).

Have occurred rarely severe skin reactions including erythema multiforme, Stevens Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis; liver function abnormalities including hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice and rare cases of hepatic necrosis and liver failure with death. Growth were observed reversible elevations in liver transaminases and bilirubin.

These values returned to normal within 2 -3 weeks after stopping treatment; dizziness/vertigo, convulsions (as for other macrolides), headache and somnolence, asthenia and paraesthesia; impairment of taste; interstitial nephritis and acute renal failure; occasionally been observed transient decrease in neutrophil count. ...

Precaution:

As with other antibiotic therapy, monitor for signs of superinfection with resistant pathogens, including fungi. As with erythromycin and other macrolides, rare serious allergic reactions have been reported, including angioedema and anaphylaxis. Some allergic reactions have led to recurrent symptoms and require long periods of monitoring and treatment. Contains sodium benzoate is slightly irritating to skin, eyes and mucous membranes and may increase the risk of jaundice in newborns.
