Chest | Cardiology | Palsy or Palpitations or Rapid Heartbeat (Symptom)

Palpitations are unpleasant sensations of irregular heartbeat and / or pounding heartbeat.

Some people with palpitations have no heart disease or abnormal heart rhythms and reasons for their palpitations are unknown.

In others, palpitations result from abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias). In some patients, arrhythmias are caused by diseases of the muscle, valves or coronary arteries. In others, arrhythmias can reflect disease hearts electrical system only, while the rest of the heart is healthy. Other causes of arrhythmias include medications, excessive alcohol, excessive levels of thyroid hormone, and low levels of oxygen in the blood, stress and smoking.
