Description
A contusion is a type of physical injury, non-penetrating human body caused by the action of hard objects, obtuse or blunt surface, which acts on the body by means of a considerable force. The effects of a blunt force injury vary in the force and energy applied to the body, resulting in a surface lesion such as a bruise, or injury of organs and viscera that may compromise the subject’s life, as a fracture.
A bruise is medically known as a contusion. A bruise is an injury to the soft tissue, resulting in the rupture of the local capillaries and red blood cell loss. Bruises can be seen as reddish-purple on the skin. A bruise can sometimes be associated with a temporarily raised area on the skin. When a bruise fades, it becomes green and brown as the body metabolizes the blood cells and bilirubin pigment in the skin. A bruise is best treated with local application of a cold pack immediately after the injury.
A sore or pressure on the skin occurs when the blood supply to an area of the body ceases, and the skin dyes in that area. A person who has been confined to bed or that is always in a wheelchair puts pressure on the same parts of the body for long. This reduces blood flow to these parts, making them more likely to develop open wounds. The latter condition worsens when the patient touches the body against the sheets or is raised abruptly from the bed or chair. ...
