Sneezing
Ear Nose | General Practice | Sneezing (Symptom)
Description
A sneeze is generated by expelling the air by the force of the mouth and nose in an explosive action, spasmodic involuntary as a result mainly of the nasal mucosal irritation or confusion.
Causes
Irritation stimulates the sensitivity of the nose and this causes a strong and very quick inhalation of air-about two pints, which goes into the lungs. At the time when the abdominal muscles are suddenly raising the diaphragm to increase the pressure in the lungs. The causes are derived from allergic rhinitis (runny nose), allergies, influenza (seasonal flu), the existence of a nasal foreign body, a foreign substance in the nasal cavity, nasal polyps, rhinovirus infection (common cold), the upper respiratory tract infection (URI) or a viral infection of the upper airway.
