Swelling of Lips

Mouth | Odontologie | Swelling of Lips (Symptom)

Swelling of the lips may arise due to different conditions. Trauma to the lip area and the mouth is an obvious cause.

Allergic reactions, either to food or other substances can often be accompanied by swelling of the lips. Some infections (such as infection with herpes simplex virus) can lead to blisters and localized swelling of the lips. Infections and inflammatory skin diseases can also lead to the lips of the inflammation and swelling (cheilitis). Less commonly, medical conditions that affect the whole body can cause swelling of the lips, sometimes in association with fluid retention or swelling in other body areas.
