Description

Paraesthesia is characterized by abnormal tingling sensations, numbness, burning sensations and numbness in the hands and the feet. These symptoms may occur due to compressed nerves caused by repetitive movements of the joints and spine as well as in certain diseases and even pregnancy.

Causes

Paresthesia and dysesthesia are terms used to describe finger numbness. Paresthesia implies that abnormal sensation is perceived in the absence of a stimulus, while dysesthesia is a term used to describe certain types of positive feelings caused by a stimulus.

Diabetes is one of the most common causes tingling. Tingling and other symptoms often first develop in both feet and go up the legs, followed by tingling and other symptoms that affect both hands and go up the arms.
